Do not want to become the richest man in Macao when the founder of office workers is now optimistic about the Chinese market

【World Wide Web Reporter Zhang Zhiying】The Atlassian Conference made a strong impression in Silicon Valley this September. As a reporter from the Global Network, I was invited to the San Jose event venue to experience firsthand what makes this legendary company so special. It all started with two young entrepreneurs who refused to wear suits or follow traditional corporate norms. They chose to start their own business, developing commercial software that eventually traveled from Australia to the United States. Just two years ago, they went public on Nasdaq in New York, and by 2017, their market value had reached an impressive $8.3 billion. At just 34, they became some of the richest people in Australia. What happened at the Atlassian Conference? Let me take you through my experience.

Foreign tech media have been covering this fast-growing software company, which now has over 2,000 employees and is making significant strides in the Chinese market. Atlassian's success lies in its ability to challenge the traditional model of expensive commercial software, tapping into the pain points of the industry during the digital transformation wave. Their flagship product, JIRA Software, became a key tool for agile development teams around the world.

As Atlassian expands globally, China is also beginning to follow suit. During the conference, founder Mike Cannon-Brookes mentioned that the Chinese market is huge and that the company is continuously working on adapting its products to local culture and language requirements.

At the Partner Day event, Atlassian announced a major update to its logo. Previously inspired by Atlas, the Titan from Greek mythology who carried the sky, the new design reflects a team effort rather than an individual one. This change highlights the company’s core belief in collaboration and teamwork.

Atlassian showcased a wide range of products, including JIRA Software, Confluence, Bitbucket, Sourcetree, Servicedesk, Hipchat, Stride, and Bamboo. While each product may compete with others in the market, Atlassian's strength lies in integrating them into a cohesive ecosystem, making it hard to replace.

This year, Atlassian acquired Trello for $425 million. At the conference, Trello's booth was on display, highlighting the shared vision between the two companies. According to Atlassian’s product manager, Lingbo, many companies use both platforms separately, but after the acquisition, integration will enable better cross-departmental collaboration.

Atlassian's powerful ecosystem platform has attracted thousands of developers worldwide, creating a vibrant marketplace of applications. At the event, numerous companies from different countries brought their tools to showcase at the conference.

Two notable application developers were present: eazy BI from Europe, offering analysis tools for Atlassian products, and TEMPO, which developed three apps for tracking team hours, project progress, and budget planning. These examples highlight the vast opportunities within Atlassian's ecosystem.

Creative kanban applications were also on display, such as whiteboards and sticky notes, which are popular in agile teams. Agile methodology emphasizes transparency, openness, and autonomy in teamwork, and it's becoming more widespread across departments beyond IT.

The Atlassian "China Team" included representatives from Almatis, Beijing Sinok, and Longzhi, who attended the conference in San Jose. These three companies were among the few Chinese participants at the event.

In recent years, Atlassian has been riding the wave of digital transformation in China. Many well-known large companies have adopted JIRA products. The server version of Atlassian's software is particularly popular in China, although some users wish it could update faster like the cloud version.

In response, Bryan Rollins, head of server business, explained that while the server version updates slower, it benefits from the market-tested features of the cloud version. Popular and practical features are later integrated into the server version, ensuring a more stable and mature product experience.
