Imagination uses the Veloce platform for PowerVR Wizard ray tracing GPU verification

Wilsonville, OR, December 21, 2015 – Mentor Graphics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced that ImaginaTIon Technologies, a global leader in semiconductor design IP (including PowerVRTM GPUs and MIPS® CPUs), is in its GPU with ray tracing technology The PowerVR Wizard GR6500's internal verification process deploys the Virtual Testbench Acceleration (TBX) technology of the Veloce® hardware emulation platform. ImaginaTIon's PowerVR Wizard architecture enhances the standards for ray tracing graphics in consumer electronics and mobile electronics, meeting stringent power budget and cost control requirements while delivering stunning real-world performance and performance.

“To simplify the verification of complex ImaginaTIon IP, we chose an integrated verification strategy, and hardware emulation is one of the necessary technologies,” said Martin Ashton, executive vice president of PowerVR at ImaginaTIon Technologies. “Veloce TBX technology provides a complete solution with inherent flexibility to help us ensure that the silicon design is done in one go in the PowerVR Wizard GR6500.”

The transaction-based Veloce TBX technology is part of Veloce OS, providing a high level of verification processing power, a flexible validation usage model, and improved debugging efficiency. In terms of performance improvements, Veloce TBX technology helps Imagination improve test repeatability in regression testing, far surpassing non-deterministic regression testing using In-Circuit Simulation (ICE) mode. Imagination also noted that performance can be improved by optimizing memory access and relying on parallel modeling methods based on Veloce TBX technology.

Another key benefit for Imagination is that Mentor has developed a feature in which the Veloce hardware emulation platform supports Imagination's 64-bit drivers. Performing a 64-bit run without making changes based on custom target hardware means that waiting for new hardware does not adversely affect the delivery date. This feature also facilitates more efficient platform integration, supports any combination of CPU architecture and related operating systems, and streamlines software-driven code development by implementing real-world content.

“In the past few years, Imagination and Mentor have been very pleased to make positive progress in using Veroce hardware simulation platforms to increase the effectiveness and flexibility of verification,” said Eric Selosse, vice president and general manager of simulation at Mentor Graphics. “Imagination is committed to refining the verification process, which not only benefits the company internally, but also benefits ecosystem partners who choose to use Imagination IP for design.”

About Veloce Hardware Simulation Platform

The Veloce hardware emulation platform is the core technology of the Mentor® Enterprise Verification PlatformTM (EVP). EVP increases the productivity of ASIC and SoC functional verification by converging advanced verification technologies into a comprehensive platform.

The success of the Veloce hardware simulation platform is due to several factors: high design capacity, execution speed, and outstanding features. Currently considered to be the most versatile and powerful verification tool, the project team uses hardware emulation for hardware debugging, hardware/software co-verification or integration, system-level prototyping, low-power verification and power estimation, and performance feature extraction.
