Domestic operating system breaks the name of security and industrial interests

How many companies in China are engaged in domestic (desktop) operating systems? Ni Guangnan’s answer is 15th. However, “all of us add up to a few percent of the people’s (referred to as Microsoft).

Ni Guangnan is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He has promoted domestically produced open source software based on Linux since 1999. It has been 15 years since. There are two main things he has done recently: one is to appeal to Microsoft Win8 operating system to be unfavorable to national information security, and the other is to advocate and establish the China Intelligent Terminal Operating System Industry Alliance and serve as the director of the Alliance Technical Expert Committee.

On September 13, Ni Guangnan was the only invited guest to attend the press conference of Puhua Basic Software Company, a member of China Electronics Technology Group. The latter released the Linux version of the Puhua series operating system version 3.0 on the same day, and its publicity focused on the "domestic operating system."

However, neither Ni Guangnan nor Bai Ke, general manager of the Puhua Basic Software Division, can make a clear definition of the domestic operating system. Bai Ke previously served as the vice president of Zhongke Hongqi, another domestic operating system manufacturer. Zhongke Hongqi has attracted industry attention due to bankruptcy rumors and acquisitions, and PwC has participated in the bidding.

Ni Guangnan said that for the domestic operating system, the most basic one is still autonomously controllable. However, “self-controllable” has become the most important label for domestic operating system manufacturers' external publicity, including the Shanghai 彤 which previously released the COS operating system, and the winning software that has launched several operating systems and also has the background of China Electronics Technology Group. Wait.

In the name of security and industrial interests

In fact, self-control is almost equal to safety. Ni Guangnan said that government procurement does not purchase Win8, which is definitely not a technical reason, and it is entirely for security reasons. "This is the first time since the founding of the People's Republic of China that the basic software operating system for foreign multinational corporations has clearly stated that it cannot be purchased."

Ni Guangnan also said earlier that "if you do not use China's self-developed operating system, the back door key of the system is always in the hands of others, then China's information security is not guaranteed, objectively also for the monitoring plan such as 'prism door' The opportunity has come." Everything has become more meaningful since the rise in personal security to the national security level.

In addition, Microsoft announced that the suspension of Windows XP has become one of the most important reasons for emphasizing "security." Some analysts said, "There are still many users in the Chinese market in the XP era, and they have not kept pace with Microsoft's upgrade."

Subsequently, Win8's twists and turns in government procurement, as well as Microsoft's anti-monopoly investigation, these signs indicate that the market began to pay attention to the impact of too large Microsoft on the stable development of the industry.

Not only that, Ni Guangnan's plan also has market factors to consider. Ni Guangnan said, "We hope to replace Win7 and XP in one or two years." According to the Chinese market, the computer calculation is replaced every five years. If all Microsoft software is used, the software fee will be about 2,000 yuan. Calculating its market size will reach 200 billion.

In Ni Guangnan's view, the cost can only support a small number of Microsoft's prices, so that it can support Chinese software companies. "This is an opportunity for the industry, which is in line with the requirements of the country to build a network power, master the core technology, and meet the requirements of industrial development, so that the basic software industry can develop faster."

The new thinking is the "app store"

The introduction of a domestic operating system is clearly a defensive measure. However, this is not a new reflection. In the market, there have been domestic operating systems such as the winning unicorn, Zhongke Hongqi, meditation meteor, and SPG, but their market share is difficult to break and development is difficult.

Among them, Zhongke Hongqi was due to the break of the capital chain. The shareholders announced the dissolution of the company in February this year, the employee labor contract was terminated, and the company entered the liquidation procedure.

In fact, one of the doubts about domestic operating systems is that there is no complete ecosystem, and users have difficulty obtaining software applications of the same order of magnitude as Microsoft.

In this regard, Ni Guangnan said that you can use the app store to meet the user needs and network characteristics of the model against Microsoft's traditional model. He hopes that through the form of alliances, it can quickly cover a large number of operating systems.

Earlier, Ni Guangnan said that he hopes to launch a domestic desktop operating system in October and support the app store. And it will adopt a corporatized operation mode to unite domestic operating system development enterprises and set standards.

However, industry thinking is more realistic, and companies often want to establish their own voice.

PwC has introduced the concept of “software center” in its products, similar to the app store. Chen Jianhui, product director of Puhua Software Basic Software Division, said that this is not a complete application store. What he has done is to select many mature applications and tools based on open source technology, and optimize and transform it to support this release. The product. As for the future, I hope more developers will submit more applications on their software centers.

For the alliance's plan, Chen Jianhui said that in the future, through the cooperation of the alliance, the Puhua Software Center will become a common application store on 18 operating system platforms.

As for the domestic operating system on the mobile side, Ni Guangnan said that it still takes time. But for now, the latter's app store is more market-oriented and more difficult to unify than the desktop.

Market prospects or in key industries

Unlike the rich applications on the mobile side, the software programs on the desktop are relatively fixed and mature, and there are not many user choices. Moreover, although the desktop PC market has a downward trend in the personal consumer market, there is still a large demand for enterprise users. This makes some domestic operating system manufacturers think that "alternative" is realistic.

Zhao Xiaoliang, general manager of Puhua Software, said that in response to the office needs of the party and government military systems, Puhua has already completed a relatively complete program. Puhua Software has deployed corresponding products in the headquarters of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation and the Institute of Electric Power, 11 departments, 14 departments, 54 departments and other direct units of the second-level units and the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and other government agencies.

At the press conference, Puhua Software also revealed that some of China Post Savings Bank's customized terminal and China Post's farmer chain store cash register system have deployed the company's products, and the General Administration of Customs and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have also completed the relevant deployment. .

After the latest phase of the general software agreement supply tenders issued by the central government agency procurement center, as the list of personal operating systems increased from the original four to eight, some domestic operating system vendors began to receive orders from the industry: The successful bidding software signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Dell, and plans to pre-install the Kirin operating system in Dell's commercial computer series products; Sipu has reached a cooperation agreement with Lenovo to pre-install the SPGnux operating system on 7 computers that Lenovo will launch in the second half of the year. .

Analysts pointed out that for domestic operating systems, government agencies and key industries will be important markets. If it can introduce relevant policy guidance, it will have the opportunity to leverage its development. Therefore, in response to Microsoft's national anti-monopoly investigation, some industry insiders also regard it as a big advantage for domestic operating systems.
