Recently, Philips announced the development of the world's most efficient "warm white" LED lighting. It will hopefully replace fluorescent lamps that can be found everywhere in the office and on the factory floor. The new TLED (tube-style light emitting diode) has the potential to reduce the world's total energy consumption by more than 7%.
Philips claims that Philips' new TLED lamps emit warm white light (color temperature of approximately 2700K) and can reach 200 lumens per watt (200 lm/W). Its cost is only a little higher than the strip light (100 lm/W). The traditional incandescent lamp can only reach 15 lm/W.
On a global scale, architectural lighting accounts for 15% to 19% of total energy consumption, while a wide variety of lamps occupy more than half of the lighting market. If Philips' new lamps are available in the summer of 2015, it is expected to reduce energy consumption by more than 7%.
