ROHM introduces high-power low-resistance shunt resistor "GMR100 series" and mass production
ROHM has introduced the GMR100 Series, a high-power, low-resistance shunt resistor designed for mass-sensing applications in demanding environments such as automotive systems, industrial equipment, and large home appliances. The product is now in full-scale production, meeting the growing demand for precision and reliability in power management solutions.
Launched in April 2017 at a price of 195 yen per unit (excluding tax), the GMR100 Series entered mass production in October 2017 with a monthly output of 1 million units. The manufacturing process is handled by ROHM Integrated Systems (Thailand) Co., Ltd., ensuring consistent quality and efficient production.
Compared to the previous PSR series, the GMR100 Series offers a broader range of resistance values, including options from 5mΩ to 220mΩ. This expansion allows customers to choose the most suitable resistor for their specific application needs.
Thanks to ROHM's advanced materials and innovative design, the GMR100 Series achieves a 45% reduction in surface temperature rise compared to earlier models. This improvement ensures stable resistance values even under heavy load conditions. Additionally, the resistor uses a high-performance alloy that provides excellent temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) characteristics in the low-resistance range, making it highly accurate and reliable.
The new structure also makes the resistor significantly lighter and thinner—just 0.4mm thick—reducing its size by approximately 47% compared to conventional models. This compact design simplifies integration into space-constrained systems.
With its enhanced performance and smaller footprint, the GMR100 Series is ideal for use in automotive and industrial applications where thermal management and miniaturization are critical. It helps engineers reduce design complexity and achieve more compact, efficient systems.
