ROHM introduces high-power low-resistance shunt resistor "GMR100 series" and mass production

ROHM has introduced the GMR100 Series, a high-power, low-resistance shunt resistor designed for mass-sensing applications in demanding environments such as automotive systems, industrial equipment, and large home appliances. This product is now in full-scale production, meeting the growing need for precision and reliability in power management solutions. Launched in April 2017 at a price of 195 yen per unit (excluding tax), the GMR100 Series officially entered mass production in October 2017 with a monthly output of 1 million units. The manufacturing process is handled by ROHM Integrated Systems (Thailand) Co., Ltd., ensuring consistent quality and efficiency across both pre- and post-production stages. The GMR100 Series expands on the previous PSR series by offering a broader range of resistance values, from 5mΩ up to 220mΩ. This enhanced flexibility allows customers to choose the most suitable resistor for their specific application needs, making it ideal for a wide variety of high-current sensing scenarios. Thanks to ROHM’s advanced materials and innovative design, the GMR100 Series achieves a 45% reduction in surface temperature rise compared to earlier models. This improvement ensures stable resistance values even under heavy load conditions, enhancing performance and longevity. Additionally, the resistor uses a high-performance alloy, resulting in an excellent temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) in the low-resistance range—making it highly accurate and reliable. The new structure also makes the GMR100 Series significantly lighter and thinner, measuring just 0.4mm in thickness. This is approximately 47% smaller than conventional resistors, allowing for more compact and efficient designs. These features make the GMR100 Series particularly well-suited for applications where space and thermal management are critical, such as in automotive and industrial systems. By reducing the design complexity and enabling miniaturization, the GMR100 Series helps engineers create more efficient and compact systems. Whether used in electric vehicles, smart factories, or energy-efficient appliances, this product offers a powerful combination of performance, precision, and reliability.
