Vishay's new miniature infrared receiver provides better light performance and RF noise immunity

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the launch of two new series of micro-infrared (IR) receiver modules for consumer applications in the mid-infrared remote control applications - TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx, expanding optoelectronics combination. The Vishay Semiconductors TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx family of devices feature the same Minimold package with the same RF noise immunity as Minicast receivers, and optical performance over Mold packages for TVs, set-top boxes, air conditioners and hi-fi systems.

The devices introduced today have high sensitivity. The typical radiation of the TSOP33xxx series at 0° is as low as 0.08 mW/m2 and the TSOP53xxx series is 0.12 mW/m2. The Minimold package has the same sensitivity in the 0° direction as the Mold package, and is superior to Mold devices at all angles up to 45°. The Minimold package also features a proven "F" option for better filtering of out-of-band optical noise.

To simplify the design, the TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx family of devices house a photodetector, preamplifier circuit, and IR filter in a single 3-pin epoxy package. The receiver's supply voltage is 2.5V to 5.5V; the typical supply current of the TSOP33xxx series is 0.35mA, the TSOP53xxx series is 0.7mA; the transmission distance is up to 45 meters; the carrier frequency is from 30kHz to 56kHz. The device improves ambient light rejection and is insensitive to supply voltage fluctuations and ripple noise.

The infrared receiver has five automatic gain control (AGC) versions for short burst coding and long burst coding. The TSOP331xx, TSOP332xx, TSOP531xx and TSOP532xx are compatible with all common infrared control data formats. The TSOP333xx, TSOP334xx, TSOP533xx and TSOP534xx are ideal for all types of remote controls, suppressing false pulses from energy-saving lamps and Wi-Fi sources, as well as continuously transmitting data signals.

Mold and Minicast packaged devices only support crest or hand soldering, and the Minimold receiver with "P" option also supports infrared reflow soldering. The TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx series receivers are available in two different brackets and three different bends, including top-view surface mount options. The device is RoHS and Vishay green and halogen free.

Samples of the TSOP33xxx and TSOP53xxx series are available now and are in volume production with a lead time of four weeks.
