According to a recent report from the job search platform Indeed, many people are concerned that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace human jobs. However, the reality is quite different—AI still requires significant human input in terms of research, development, and maintenance. Over the past three years, the demand for AI professionals has surged by 119%. In just one year, the percentage of AI-related job postings among all vacancies rose from 20.1% in January 2017 to 31.6%, highlighting the rapid growth of this field.
The report was authored by Daniel Culbertson, who emphasized that employers are increasingly seeking AI talent, with roles such as data scientists and machine learning engineers becoming particularly sought after. As AI continues to expand across various industries, competition for skilled professionals is expected to intensify even further in the coming years.
Culbertson explained that data scientists are currently the most in-demand AI professionals. This is because AI systems require large volumes of high-quality data to function effectively. Data scientists play a crucial role in analyzing and interpreting this data, enabling companies to gain valuable insights and achieve their business objectives more efficiently.
Employers are showing strong interest in AI roles, and job seekers’ enthusiasm for these positions reached its peak in 2017 after two consecutive years of high demand. While the annual increase in job seeker interest has slowed slightly, rising by only 1.4% compared to January 2017, the overall trend remains positive, indicating a growing awareness and appeal of AI careers.
