Huawei's New Strategy: Become the World's Third-largest Smartphone Brand in 5 Years

To achieve this goal, Huawei has launched its "India's No. 1 Strategy," which involves launching new smartphones exclusively in India first. This approach aims to capture a 10% market share by March 2018. The strategy reflects Huawei’s growing confidence in the Indian consumer base and its long-term vision for the region.

P. Sanjeev, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Glory India’s Consumer Business Unit, stated: “Interest in the Indian market has grown significantly. We meet with senior Chinese officials twice a week to update them on our progress and requirements. Their support is crucial.” He added, “With such strong growth potential, we believe India could soon become our largest market outside of China.”

As part of the new strategy, Huawei India is expanding its workforce and boosting marketing efforts. The company has hired a new Chief Marketing Officer to lead the team, and Sanjeev revealed that the marketing department has grown tenfold recently. Additionally, Huawei has increased investments in research and development and production, with nearly 300 engineers now dedicated to supporting the Indian market.

With these strategic moves, Huawei is positioning itself not just as a competitor, but as a major player in one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets. The company’s focus on innovation, local partnerships, and customer-centric strategies is helping it gain traction in a highly competitive environment.
