Controlling robots with ideas: MIT has done it

At the morning of March 7, Beijing time, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and Boston University jointly created a robot that can read human thought. With this ability, the robot does not need to learn complex human languages or otherwise obtain commands from humans. Instead, humans rely on thinking activities and a special electrode cap to direct the robot. Of course, the robot itself cannot read human thoughts directly. Instead, it is part of a larger system. It relies on an electroencephalogram monitor to figure out what humans are thinking about and pass instructions to the robot. When humans are observing robots performing tasks, EEG monitors record human brain activity. If the way the robot performs the task is wrong and causes human attention, the system will capture this information through the EEG data and pass it to the robot, which can then change the latter's actions to solve the problem. The algorithm behind this technique does not require much time to detect human thoughts by detecting the activity data of the human brain — it takes only 10-30 milliseconds. Although the current technology can only be used for simple things, such systems may be used to operate robots in the future to perform more complex tasks.
