Toshiba Introduces High Current Photo Relay in DIP4 Package

Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Devices Co., Ltd. ("Toshiba") successfully launched two new high-current optical relays manufactured using the latest U-MOS IX semiconductor technology. Both devices are currently shipping in volume production.

The new "TLP3553A" and "TLP3555A" devices have off-state output voltage ratings of 30V and 60V, respectively, and rated on-currents of 4A and 3A, both higher than the previous generation. The TLP3553A has low on-resistance down to 50mΩ (max) and its on-resistance is lower than typical mechanical relays (approximately 100mΩ), thus ensuring that operating losses are kept to a minimum.

These new products have large rated on-currents and can therefore replace the normally open (1-Form-A) mechanical relays commonly used in industrial applications. Replacing mechanical relays with optical relays helps increase system reliability and reduce the space required for relay and relay drive. These optical relays are rated for operation from -40oC to 110oC, making it easy to achieve thermal design margins.

Application

  • Industrial equipment (PLC, I/O interface, etc.)

  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)

  • Building automation system

  • Security equipment

  • Replace mechanical relays in earlier systems

Characteristics

  • These devices use MOSFETs fabricated using the latest generation of U-MOS IX processes with rated on-currents close to mechanical relays

  • Rated voltage of various off-state outputs: VOFF=30V/60V

  • Rated operating temperature range: Topr (max) = 110°C
