A document to take you to know the SmartConnect WINC1500, easy to pass SPI to wifi interface components

Overview

The SmartConnect WINC1500 is an IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Internet of Things (IoT) network controller system-on-a-chip (SoC). The device provides an ideal complement to existing microcontroller (MCU) solutions, allowing you to easily integrate Wi-Fi and networking functions into your design via the SPI to Wi-Fi® interface. The WINC1500 can be connected to any AVR® MCU with minimal resource requirements.

The most advanced mode in the WINC1500 is the single-stream 1 x 1 802.11n mode, which provides PHY throughput of up to 72 Mbps. The WINC1500 features a fully integrated power amplifier, LNA, switch and power management modes.

The WINC1500 provides built-in flash memory and an SPI serial host interface. The only external clock source required for the WINC1500 is a high speed crystal or oscillator that supports various reference clock frequencies (12–32 MHz). The WINC1500 is available in a QFN package.

Power architecture and power consumption

The WINC1500 features an innovative power architecture with extremely low power consumption and excellent performance. This approach reduces the number of external components and optimizes material costs.

The WINC1500 has multiple device states:

Configuration: Receive and send data at any time; send beacons in the form of Wi-Fi Soft AP.

Idle Listening: Receive data via TIM/DTIM; send data at any time.

Idle: Do not receive or send data; remain associated with the AP for polling.

Suspended: Do not receive or send data; no PS polling; completely disconnected from the AP.

Speed up RF design

To help speed design development, Microchip offers a fast-integrated WINC1500 single-chip module and an XPRO expansion board that is compatible with all existing Xplained PRO evaluation boards.
