A UK construction alliance, the Augmented Worker System (AWE, AR Workers System), recently received a £1 million investment from the British government. The organization is dedicated to applying AR and VR technologies to the construction industry. AWE was created by the digital developer Soluis Group and a series of partner organizations, including Carbon Dynamic and Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). AWE's mission is to improve the determinism, safety, efficiency and sustainability of the construction industry in five key areas: co-design, digital work guidance, progress monitoring, safety guidance and asset management. AMRC AR technician Christopher Freeman said: “We are very pleased to participate in this project together with Soluis. AMRC believes that activities like AWE are very important for the digitalization of the construction and infrastructure industries. Cutting-edge technologies and data-rich platforms The integration can further enhance the efficiency of communication and decision-making processes and promote the UK's productivity." This injection of funds is just another example of the British government’s focus on the construction industry. Because the British government believes this area is a key growth driver for the UK, it has been investing in the Digital Built Britain Programme. AWE will provide VR/AR support for the construction industry and improve the construction process at each stage to meet the standards of the Digital Built Britain Programme.
